WHERE TO STAY

There are lots of places to stay locally, both Henley and Reading are about 7 miles away and there are a few villages nearby with small B&Bs. We’ll be staying at the Macdonald Compleat Angler in Marlow, which is about 10 miles from the venue.

We will be having breakfast at the Compleat Angler at 10am the following morning, and you are welcome to join us. Please let us know so we can save you seat.

About Henley

6.2 miles from the venue.

George Clooney has been spotted here, along with some other celebs.

The first record of Henley is from 1179, when it is recorded that King Henry II "had bought land for the making of buildings".

There are several historical/old structures worth seeing. Henley Bridge is a five arched bridge across the river built in 1786. The Old Bell is a pub in the centre of Henley. The building has been dated from 1325: the oldest-dated building in the town.

You will also find some shopping, restaurants, pubs, and beautiful walks along the Thames.

The train station is walking distance from the hotel, and is 3 stops to Twyford (15 minutes); however, you will need to take a taxi back from the venue to the hotel on the night of the wedding.

About Sonning

3.2 miles from the venue.

Home to George Clooney...

The village of Sonning was built in the 12th century, and was originally called is Sunning. Older, more traditional villagers still pronounce the name of the village in this way and the spelling can be found on old maps and documents. In Anglo-Saxon times, the village was of considerable importance as the lesser centre of the bishopric of Ramsbury, sometimes called the see of Ramsbury and Sonning.

You will find a few pubs, a theater, and lovely walks along the Thames. The closest train station is Twyford, but you will need to take a taxi to the hotel.
